Alta Community Enrichment
I started painting and drawing when I lived in Colorado over 15 years ago. I had a set of 4 tiny canvas paintings that I made while I was camping and from there I was hooked. While traveling I would pack up a minimalist paint set and I create abstract impressionist paintings of the landscapes that surrounded me. Most of the time I would toss these paintings in the trash. Or luckily someone would buy a painting off my small shop on Etsy.
It’s been a long journey but something recently clicked in the past 5 years where I decided to focus my efforts on digital illustration. All of those hours or trial and error with different paint, brushes and colors finally allowed me to create a unique style. And a pallet to capture the places I visit, while I’m there. My illustration style is bold and vibrant and focuses on the landscapes that are around me. I lean toward simplified mountain vistas with a contrasting color scheme that can feature a sunset, sun rise or just mid day lighting.
I’m grateful to live and play in the high alpine desert of Utah and the mountain west where I ski, bike and hike. I know how important all of the places I visit are to me, and the people that live there full time. So I decided to help support those places by donating a portion of my illustration art sales to select non-profit organizations that could benefit from the awareness that my art brings. All of my Utah illustrations that are made into prints are designed with 2 things in mind. First, they have to be a place I enjoy recreating, and second they have to be near and dear to my heart.
When I started this Alta Ski Area under Mt. Superior at sunset illustration, I knew it was going to be a challenge. Not only because it’s one of my favorite and home ski areas in Utah, but because I really wanted to make sure it was visually capturing the charm of the town at night while everyone was off the mountain. When I found out about the non-profit Alta Community Enrichment (ACE), I knew that this piece would be the perfect match to help raise awareness for their organization and shine a light on the arts in this small community.
This illustration is just the beginning of many illustrations that I have created of this canyon and I can’t wait to release more scenes to help promote the beauty of the canyon and the arts with ACE.
